Opportunities for working students
If you’re a student looking to make some cash, we’ve got you covered. Our job listings range from entry-level to managerial positions that can help you build a solid resume, fill your pockets with money and gain valuable work experience. Make your way up from dishwasher to executive chef by working hard and making good decisions in a company that values your effort. We know students are not always flush with money, but there are ways to work around that. Most of our jobs pay well above minimum wage, so if you’re really looking to make an impact on your bank account it’s worth putting some extra time into finding a higher paying position.
Work experience opportunities are perfect to show employers your cooking skills
To land a job in a restaurant, you need to demonstrate that you have transferable culinary skills. A great way to do that is through paid or unpaid work experience, which helps show your future employer that you have practical knowledge and abilities. Make sure to include any relevant food-service experience on your resume; it’s an easy way to set yourself apart from other applicants. And with some of Canada’s largest food chains headquartered here, there are plenty of high-paying jobs and opportunities in restaurants throughout Ontario—here are just a few!

A variety of special dietary needs, including gluten-free and vegan, are more common now than ever before. Gluten-free diets have grown in popularity due to increased awareness of celiac disease and other forms of gluten intolerance. As a result, there is a growing market for gluten-free products which can provide companies with opportunities to expand product lines and grow sales. Interest in vegetarianism has also grown as people seek out healthier eating habits and companies like Chipotle have begun creating high-quality alternatives to meat that are both filling and affordable. Veganism can be similarly attractive because it typically entails eating healthy while avoiding all animal products—it’s especially popular among health-conscious younger generations who want vegan options without sacrificing flavor or consistency when dining out.
How to apply?
Do you love eating out and thinking about how to apply your culinary skills in a job environment? If so, here’s an opportunity that will allow you to do just that. The owners of Osaka Sushi are looking for creative and open-minded individuals who can bring their own approach to creating fine cuisine to help sustain their success. The position pays $1000 per month with quarterly bonuses of up to 30% of total sales; which is based on an individual’s growth potential within three months. If you want a challenge, we have a cooking position that starts now!
How long is the contract?
1 year minimum. You are responsible for expenses to get here and back, but we pay all transportation once you arrive in Canada. You will be expected to work full time while here, cooking sushis daily and serving customers with a smile on your face. All you need is food and housing (which you will have). We provide uniforms, meals, knives etc.
What do you get paid?
Some jobs don’t require a college degree, but they do pay well. Cashiers earn an average of $9.29 per hour, including tips, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data from May 2012 (the latest figures available). Retail salespeople make about as much as cashiers, averaging $9.10 per hour—but sales is considered one of the easiest and most accessible jobs to get. That’s because there are more retail establishments in America than any other kind; consequently, many employers need warm bodies on their sales floors.
What will be expected of me?
You’ll be expected to help prepare fresh sushi as well as maintain a clean, efficient kitchen. You should also expect long days; most employees work from 2pm until closing. We will provide you with full training and uniforms. Oh, and did we mention that employee meals are free?

The only things I need to supply are
My clothes, my eyes to help me see what I am doing and my hands to do what I see. It is kind of strange but when working in a commercial kitchen you need to have clothes that cover every inch of your body. By covering up our bodies we will avoid many risks involved with coming into contact with food. My eye sight is needed so that I can observe customers and ensure that they get their orders quick and correct so as not to upset them by making them wait longer than they should.
