The group responsible for the SolarWinds hack also made effort to compromise a top security firm. CrowdStrike also confirmed that it was targeted by the group. According to the company, the attempt occurred “during a 17-hour period several months ago,” when the hackers tried to access the company’s email.
Though the attempt was quite unsuccessful, it is an eye-opener for future hacking operation, which US government officials have attributed to Russia. SolarWinds is so far the only company known to have been successfully targeted by the group.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is still unraveling just how big an impact the SolarWinds hack has had. Within the week the agency said the state and local government were also affected, “as well as critical infrastructure entities and other private sector organizations.”
